If you work in a high-risk area; you may have come to learn to live with the idea that you can get injured at any time. This does not have to be the norm, as there are things we can do to keep the risks down, if not out. In some cases, certain risks are unavoidable. But it is important to know up to what point are these risks acceptable.
A risk comes to existence when it has a high frequency, probability of occurring, and leads to severe injuries when it does. For a risk to be accepted, the management level of an organization have to be on board. Their job involves making sure these risks are not too much. They are in charge of the tools that will help make sure these risks are not freely occurring. One of them is a job safety analysis tool.
Since they are directly affected, those on the ground need to do their best to keep these risks minimal. As a project is being developed, there is a need to communicate to all those who shall participate in it of their appointment. It is also sensible to let them know of the expected risks and the ways put in place to deal with them.
Workers often spot most of the hazards, but they may not inform their supervisors. This information needs to be captured, to develop ways of minimizing it. It is critical that there is set a point at which the risks are acceptable, and beyond which they are not. For this to happen, the organizing level needs to have all the details of the work environment, and the health and safety hazards in it.
People have different levels of tolerance to risk. While it may seem too dangerous to one, another person may find it a normal site. Therefore, communicating the presence of risk becomes complicated. This also makes it easy for those working here to know of the risk and control in place while working.
There shall thus be only minimal levels of the risks therein. It involves all those participating in the project to interact and have the same understanding of the job at hand, the procedures involved, and the hazards likely to be faced as the job goes on. It needs to be implemented in full if its benefits are to be realized. This is how they will open up to give the relevant information for his exercise. They also need to know that what they share shall be taken with the gravity it deserves.
